Reinvent yourself in the changing job market.
“In 1990 Charles Handi wrote this book called “Age of Unknown” where he predicted that careers would be a portfolio of jobs rather than one position that last for several decades”.
So, my colleague and I were in a discussion about how one should see a career change because thinking about this creates many questions:
I’ll have to start from the start.
the network that I built over the years will be affected.
Do I have the necessary skills and qualifications for this new career? if not, how to go about it.
Will this career align with my desired work-life balance?
Why? A Career Change
according to reports, a person, on average, changes career 7-8 times in their lifetime, so if you are not changing your career, you are doing poorly than the average.
changing careers is a strength; it showcases your qualities that you are flexible, adaptable, and resilient. Most of us play the status game and get trapped by it for a long period, ditching the titles and embracing the experience is the best thing you can do, in the previous issue of this newsletter, I talked about the memetic desires and how it shapes behaviour status game is the fine example of the same.
Change is the synonym for growth and is the only constant in nature, so ask yourself what you would really love to do and take one step at a time, it doesn’t matter it’s never too late to do what you really want to do.
Actionable steps
Spot your Common skills: Coding, sales, teaching? Identify patterns in your past roles. which are common in your previous job roles.
Create content, not just resumes: Share your journey openly. (This newsletter started as an experiment; I donno how it will play out)
Network like a human: Seek advice and ask, “How did you get here?” not “Can you hire me?” Personal connections unlock 85% of jobs.
Finally, Embrace the chaos. Your career isn’t a ladder it’s a jungle gym. Climb sideways, slide down, leap. The best view comes from moving, not standing still.
